Call me an accidental artist, replied Page Evans. I started painting several years ago as a form of therapy. I was looking for something that nurtured my creativity without tiring me emotionally. I write personal essays--sometimes humorous, sometimes heartfelt, always honest. And striving to be so honest can leave me feeling raw and exposed at times. So I needed a break. And that's when the painting started. Recent paintings by Page can be viewed at the Ralls Collection located in Georgetown, 1516 31st Street, NW, Weds through Friday 11 am to 4 PM or by appointment.

The team traveled to Washington DC and commence coverage on January 16th. Their work will be published in newspapers across the country. The Children's PressLine DNC/RNC delegation has arrived in Denver. After an eventful "coach" ride to our home for the next week ... this talented and inquisitive group of reporters and editors are ready for action. They are currently in the official CPL workspace researching and studying the issues and of course the newly announced VP for the Democratic party Senator Joe Biden. Watch for their stories and adorable faces!! Stay tuned!

Happy Father's Day Dad!

June 15th 2008 and just a little over the halfway mark for 08. I must be getting old -- the days are flying by and although I am actually attempting to balance my life and to live each day with a purpose ... it would be nice not to feel like the years are passing me by!

The Ralls Collection is currently exhibiting a group summer show, including many of our most important artists that we have worked with over the past 17 years. This exhibition will continue through Sept 6th, 2008. For an appointment, please call 1-202-342-1754 or email MARalls@aol.com.

I haven't been able to sit down and write about my dear friend, mentor and inspiration for founding the Ralls Collection ... artist Robert Rauschenberg. Maybe after my boys head off to Culver Camp for 6 weeks, I'll share a few stories.

It's been a sad weekend, remembering Tim Russert from my favorite TV show Meet the Press (one of the only times I turn on my television). Interestingly, I spent all afternoon yesterday at Martin Luther King Jr. High School in NYC with a group of 65+ inspiring journalist that attended training with Children's Pressline (CPL) www.cplmedia.org a youth journalism program that gives kids the opportunity to represent themselves in the media. An inspiring day with the kids! Tim Russert was clearly a fine role model for our future civic leaders and journalist.

O my lovely friend, I am sorry to hear your beautiful friend has departed. Rest in Peace Robert.I took this picture of him under the worst circumstances. It was at an opening at the National Gallery in maybe 1992. I waited for him to break free from his party, but while I waited he kept drinking scotch and encouraging me to keep pace. After about a half an hour we each got a double scotch and proceed to the empty gallery. He later told Ann Abramson it was not only the worst portrait of him but the worst picture ever taken. But he couldn't have been nicer. I wish I had taken a better picture. Hope you are well. truly, Tom Wolff

Dear Bob ... I am heartbroken today!! Your friendship, inspiration and Texas spirit will be greatly missed! As the tears fall, I know you would want me to celebrate your life and I will ... but the loss is so great at this very moment! Rest in peace my friend. I love you!

“Our young people need to know they have a viable place in the market economy,” says Ralls. “As an entrepreneur myself, I have spent years encouraging entrepreneurship in others, and I feel it’s my duty to help America’s youth secure a place in the business community. The NFTE awards dinner only confirmed my passion for empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs and advocating for this great nations young people. "

1,200 business leaders, NFTE students, teachers and staff joined together in an evening of fun and inspiration as "Youth Entrepreneur of the Year" Rafael shared his heart warming journey out of the projects to start his own business with the support of NFTE.

Other NFTE Honorees, Seth Goldman of Honest Tea, Clint Coghill, Coghill Capital Management and Stuart Weitzman of Stuart Weitzman LLC all shared their unique stories. Ralls wrapped up the evening with a champagne celebration in the Presidential Suite.

On Jan 19th at Allied Capital, Chairman and CEO William (Bill) Walton and Patty Alper hosted business leaders serving as judges for the greater DC NFTE youth regionwide business plan competition. The experience was real proof that the NFTE curriculum teaches our young people both life and business skills. 2007 off to a great start!

The first month of 2007 has been a busy month, but we are off to a wonderful year! With my energy being divided between preparing for the Ralls Collection Dubai exhibition in March during the first ever Gulf Art Fair http://www.gulfartfair.com/ , Chairing the May 2nd DC Dare to Dream gala for NFTE http://www.nftegw.com/ and just returning from Davos and the World Economic Forum http://www.weforum.org/ in Switzerland ... I could not ask for a better start to 07!

Since I always try to start my year with a trip to the Ashram http://www.theashram.com/ to ensure mind, body and spirit are in sinc to focus for the upcoming year ... 2007 was no exception. I had a fabulous group of all women this visit. We hiked our almost 100 miles over the week, participated in yoga classes, weights, pool volleyball, stretching and great dialogue out on the trails. It makes for interesting conversation when the group turns out to be all women! For readers that have never been to the Ashram or heard of it ... it has been survival to look after my sanity as an entrepreneur, single mom (the boys call it Mommy boot camp and love to joke that ... oh no she's back and everything is organic - including the cookies!) and keeping focused with the projects I am trying to accomplish. The food is vegetarian and all organic. The staff loving (with a bit of tough love!) and completely in charge of you while you leave behind life for 6 days. I started going to the Ashram 23 years ago ... yes I was only 10 years old! :) Most people that attend are returnees because they get great results and feel awesome once they have given up Starbucks, chocolates or maybe just stress for a week. Whatever stress, emotional pain or extra pounds I take with me ... I leave them in the Santa Monica Mountains and although I usually go back to drinking my favorite coffee at Starbucks- I do have a better perspective on challenges in my life. Catharina (everyone calls her Cat) is like a second Mom to me (I'm sure every guest at the Ashram feels that way) and I know she genuinely cares where I'm going in my life and how I'm planning to get there. Big hugs and many thanks to my week of amazing ladies!!! And to my Ashram family that I love and can't wait to see again soon!! And for all you readers that are thinking the Ashram is a spa ... think again! It's more like a spiritual bootcamp and every guest has their own personal experience. To me - it's a vacation!

Leaders in Dubai was another mind expanding few days. First, I am extremely grateful and proud of my fellow countrymen that spoke at Leaders in Dubai. General Powell was the perfect Statesman and an inspiring leader sharing his life as a General, Diplomat and Philanthropic leader through his community work. Amazingly, he spoke for what seemed like minutes ... but I'm sure it was at least an hour and he had absolutely no notes, stood stage center and never missed a beat! General Powell and wife Alma are definitely the role models that I respect and hope to implement in my own life! Other favorite speakers were Lou Gerstner and Michael Eisner, both great American business men with compelling experiences to share. But my favorite speaker was Her Majesty Queen Noor, an intelligent, elegant, informative humanitarian. Her grace and beauty brought another dimension to the conference. Women have a strong understanding for what is needed for peace as well as compassion to guide us to a better world. Queen Noor has taken her position and is using her experience to lead and bridge many cultures. I really enjoyed the new friends I made and loved the many Nationals that I met! Also, I found the CNN CEO forum to be fascinating with top business leaders speaking candidly about the future of Dubai and the work needed from the business community. Unfortunately, I don't have the names (but will go back and locate them) but remember one owning a courier business - definitely has to be a profitable business in the Gulf given they don't have a regular postal system. Everyone receives their mail at a Post Office Box and explaining how to deliver a package is common practice (may I add at times frustrating). One of the comments made in the CNN CEO forum that stood out was the need to foster entrepreneurship and small businesses. Here I thought Dubai was the most entrepreneurial community ... I need to locate this man and pitch NFTE (National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship)! www.leadersindubai.com
